Ming-Chi Kuo, an analyst at Tianfeng International Securities in Hong KongPoint outApple’s first foldable screen product will be based on the MacBook and will feature a 20.25-inch or 18.8-inch foldable screen, allowing it to be folded to between 14 inches and 15 inches, or between 13 inches and 14 inches.
The foldable screen for this product will be supplied exclusively by LG Display. The screen is expected to go into mass production in the fourth quarter of 2025 and will be used for product assembly in the first quarter of 2026. The processor equipped in this product will be of M5 specification.
Apple's proposed specifications call for a display panel that's as seamless as possible, placing higher demands on the display panel and hinge design. This could also increase costs, which will be reflected in the actual product price. According to Ming-Chi Kuo's estimate, the display panel cost for this product will be between $600 and $650, while the hinge cost will be between $200 and $250.
If Apple is unable to significantly improve the yield rate and reduce costs before this product is officially mass-produced, it means that the manufacturing cost of this product may be close to that of Vision Pro, which means it will be sold at a higher price.
On the other hand, Ross Young, CEO of display supply chain consulting firm DSCC, believes that Apple is expected to consider actual costs and will make its first foldable screen product equipped with an 18.8-inch screen instead of a 20.25-inch design.
