Microsoft announced that in the recently released June game development tools, a setting has been added to free up hundreds of MB of additional memory space for the Xbox Series S, allowing the execution performance of Xbox Series S games to be further improved.
According to Microsoft's original design, although the Xbox Series S uses the same CPU design as the Xbox Series X, it has a 6GB less memory capacity, with only 10GB of capacity. After deducting the capacity occupied by the necessary system, there is actually only 8GB of usable space left. As a result, some games will run awkwardly on the Xbox Series S, and some may even have to reduce the resolution and frames per second in exchange for smoothness.
Microsoft has previously implemented a similar feature on Xbox One consoles, enabling them to disable Kinect's motion camera usage to free up memory and allow games to run more smoothly. This new feature on the Xbox Series S will naturally allow more games to run smoothly on the console, attracting even more gamers.
As for attracting more people to play games on the Xbox Series S, this could also boost the number of Xbox gamers supporting the platform and encourage more gamers to subscribe to the Xbox Game Pass subscription service. Furthermore, enabling the Xbox Series S to run games smoothly would naturally attract more developers to offer their games for the console.
