Competition and Markets AuthorityFormal consentAfter Microsoft acquired Activision Blizzard for $687 billion, Microsoft also announcedCompleted acquisition of Activision Blizzard, and is certain to bring games from Activision Blizzard, Blizzard Entertainment, and King to the Xbox Game Pass service.
At the same time, Microsoft emphasized that Activision Blizzard's games will not only be provided through the Xbox Game Pass service, but will also provide game content on an equal basis in accordance with previous agreements signed with industry players including NVIDIA, Nintendo, and Sony.
In addition, Microsoft also stated that players can use the Xbox Game Pass service through mobile phones, tablets and PC connected devices to play games such as "Call of Duty" and "Diablo" through cloud streaming.
After completing the acquisition of Activision Blizzard, Microsoft will become the world's third largest gaming company, second only to Tencent, which is currently the largest, and Sony, which ranks second.
Although the US Federal Trade Commission recently expressed dissatisfaction with Microsoft's deal and filed a lawsuit against Microsoft, the court later ruled that the deal did not constitute a market monopoly. Although the US Federal Trade Commission still disagrees with the ruling, it is clear that it is unlikely to stop the acquisition before the final closing date.
However, the U.S. Federal Trade Commission is still trying to block Microsoft's transaction. Even though it may not be able to completely prevent Microsoft from completing the acquisition of Activision Blizzard, it may still require Microsoft to split part or all of Activision Blizzard's business based on concerns about market monopoly.
