Microsoft announced earlier that starting in October this year, it will no longer provide free Xbox 10 games with the Xbox Games with Gold subscription service.
According to Microsoft, the reason is that the number of Xbox 360 games currently available each month has reached the catalog storage limit, but Xbox One games will continue to be available in the future, as well as exclusive offers for subscribers.
The Xbox Games with Gold subscription service, formerly known as Xbox Live Gold, was launched in 2013. It attracts players to subscribe by giving away Xbox 360 games every month. When the Xbox One series consoles were launched, Xbox One game content was also given away to compete with Sony's practice of giving away games in its PlayStation Plus subscription service.
However, as Microsoft began to focus on developing the Xbox Game Pass subscription service, allowing players to download and use various game content at any time through subscription qualifications, including numerous Xbox 360 and Xbox One games, and even later Microsoft announced that players could directly play basically free online game content, it is clear that providing free Xbox 360 games through the Xbox Games with Gold subscription service no longer has much practical incentive.
The announcement that free Xbox 360 games will no longer be offered through the Xbox Games with Gold subscription service may also mean that Microsoft will readjust its content policy in the future to continue to attract player support.
