The Verge websiteCiting sources, Microsoft is internally testing a chatbot, Xbox Support Virtual Agent, that runs on the Xbox platform, allowing users to communicate and interact through natural language.
Users can interact with the Xbox Support Virtual Agent through chat, and it can help query Xbox-related information, answer game-related questions, or help process game refund requests, etc., while providing a visual experience with animated images.
Haiyan Zhang, general manager of Microsoft's Xbox Gaming AI department, confirmed that the company is indeed working on developing this service internally, mainly to allow players to more intuitively obtain relevant technical assistance resources on the Xbox platform, or to more easily use the Xbox platform service functions.
Previously, Microsoft has collaborated with InworldAI to leverage artificial intelligence technology to make in-game NPC characters more personalized and enable more authentic interactions with players, including real-time conversations. The Xbox Support Virtual Agent is also expected to be part of Microsoft's AI-powered interactive initiatives on the Xbox platform.
In addition to providing a more interactive and realistic AI application experience on the Xbox platform, Microsoft also plans to use AI and Copilot services to help review Xbox platform content, such as whether players' comments in online games involve discrimination, verbal violence, etc.
Earlier, Microsoft also brought the digital assistant service Cortana to the Xbox platform, but due to the limitations of artificial intelligence technology at the time, the actual interactive experience players received was not ideal, so Microsoft subsequently canceled the provision of Cortana services on the Xbox platform.
