Microsoft earlierAnnounce, providing a new version of Xbox PC App testing for Windows 11 PCs designed for Arm architecture, allowing users to directly download and install PC Game Pass or games included in the Xbox Game Pass Ultimate subscription service, and can run them directly in the Arm architecture environment, which means that Microsoft will further expand the game compatibility of Arm architecture Windows 11 PCs.
Microsoft said that the Windows and Xbox teams are working closely to ensure that more games included in the service can run smoothly on Arm-based Windows 11 PCs, and plans to add more new features in the coming months to further enhance the gaming compatibility and user experience of Arm-based Windows 11 PCs.
The update version number is 2508.1001.27.0 and is first open to users who participate in both the Windows Insider Program and the Xbox Insider Program and have joined the PC Gaming Preview in the Xbox Insider Hub for testing.
However, this feature is currently being pushed in stages, so not all users participating in the Insider program will receive the update at the same time. Some players may get the new version in advance, but some players will get the update later.
In the past, the gaming experience on Arm-based Windows PCs has been limited by compatibility and performance challenges. However, Microsoft's opening of the Xbox PC App for Arm-based Windows 11 PCs, adding game download and on-device play capabilities, indicates that Microsoft is accelerating its layout of the gaming ecosystem for Arm-based Windows 11 PCs and attracting more game developers to create games for the Arm-based Windows 11 PC platform.
On the other hand, Apple's recent transition to Arm-based processors across all Mac models has also made it easier for game developers to port their games to the macOS platform. As a result, major game developers such as Capcom and Ubisoft are now bringing their AAA titles to Macs. Perhaps this has also put pressure on Microsoft to potentially disrupt the gaming market, prompting the company to strengthen game compatibility for Arm-based Windows 3 PCs.
Earlier market reports also suggested that MediaTek and NVIDIA were collaborating to release processors specifically for Windows on Arm devices, thereby driving the development of higher-performance Windows on Arm devices. Therefore, Microsoft must also improve the gaming compatibility of Arm-based Windows 11 PCs to solidify its market share in the gaming platform market.
In the future, as Microsoft continues to collaborate with game developers to expand the compatibility list, Arm-based Windows 11 PCs may gradually shed the stereotype of being "unsuitable for gaming" and become a versatile option that combines long-lasting battery life with entertainment performance.
