Bloomberg NewsIt is said that Microsoft has reached an agreement with the American Federation of Labor and Congress of Industrial Organizations (AFL-CIO), the largest labor union in the United States, that the two sides will cooperate on the future development of artificial intelligence, and Microsoft will remain neutral in the process of encouraging workers to join unions.
The AFL-CIO, which currently represents 60 unions and represents approximately 1250 million workers in the United States, holds considerable influence. The agreement with Microsoft signifies a balance between traditional labor practices and the development of artificial intelligence technology.
Microsoft President Brad Smith said the neutrality agreement means Microsoft will make a full commitment to labor and states that if its employees or supplier employees want to establish a union, they will cooperate with the American Federation of Labor and the Congress of Industrial Organizations and their affiliates to ensure labor rights.
Liz Shuler, president of the American Federation of Labor and Congress of Industrial Organizations, said the agreement with Microsoft means Microsoft is committed to allowing workers to form unions in the future, and is in stark contrast to other technology companies that resist the formation of unions.
In this agreement, Microsoft emphasized that the development of artificial intelligence technology is to improve work productivity and reduce work risks, so that living standards can be significantly improved, rather than to replace workers.
