During the Inspire 2021 event, Microsoft announced the launch ofWindows 365 ServicesOn the other hand, it also announced the launch of sustainable cloud service development goals.
Since the goal of achieving zero carbon emissions by 2030 was proposed in the past, and more and more services are being put on the cloud, even the Windows operating system will be able to be used through cloud operations in the future, which means that many of Microsoft's services will rely more on cloud operations in the future. Therefore, the goal of sustainable cloud service development proposed this time is naturally also to reduce the energy loss and carbon emissions problems associated with cloud services.
According to Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella, by moving services to the cloud and using technologies such as artificial intelligence to accelerate data computing and work processing, the data processing and exchange processes between different devices can be reduced, thereby reducing energy loss and indirectly reducing overall carbon emissions.
Microsoft plans to publicly preview its sustainable cloud service project in the second half of this year, which is expected to help companies record and track carbon emissions and move towards zero carbon emissions, thereby creating more development opportunities.
At last year's Inspire 2020 online event, Microsoft announced the expansion of its zero-carbon development goals and the establishment of the "Transform to Net Zero" alliance transformation plan, hoping to work with more partners to achieve zero-carbon emissions. It also announced a partnership with electricity seller Vattenfall and required its supply chain partners to comply with carbon emission reduction measures.
