The name was confirmed to be Xiaomi Laptop Air. Compared to Apple's MacBook Air, it is 13% thinner and lighter at its thickest point, even thinner than the diameter of a one-cent coin. It is also about 5% lighter than the MacBook Air, has a narrower screen border, and the actual screen size of the 13.3-inch body is about 11% smaller than that of the MacBook Air.
The new Xiaomi product unveiled after the Redmi Pro is confirmed to be the Xiaomi laptop that has been rumored in the past. It is confirmed to emphasize the product features of being lighter, more powerful, and more affordable. It is named Xiaomi Laptop Air and has an all-metal body with borax anodizing treatment. The body does not use any Xiaomi-related brand logos. In addition to choosing between gold and silver body colors, users can also use Xiaomi-provided body stickers to create a personalized style.
The keyboard is confirmed to be a full-size backlit keyboard with 1.3mm of key travel, while the screen boasts a 13.3-inch display with ultra-thin bezels and is protected by mirrored glass. The chassis is 13% thinner at its thickest point, even thinner than the diameter of a one-cent coin, and approximately 5% lighter than the MacBook Air. The narrower bezels mean the 13.3-inch display is approximately 11% smaller than the MacBook Air.
The built-in processor uses Intel Core i5 dual-core specifications, and is equipped with 8GB DDR4 memory, 256GB SSD storage capacity (additional slot expansion is provided), and up to 9.5 hours of usage time. The sound effects are compatible with AKG speakers and Dolby sound technology, and are additionally equipped with Nvidia GeForce 940MX independent graphics card. The operating system is equipped with Windows 10 Home Edition (Simplified Chinese version).
In terms of special application functions, in addition to the functions and services provided by Microsoft Windows 10, Xiaomi has also added data synchronization functions with Xiaomi mobile phones and other devices to the Xiaomi Notebook Air, and can be used with the Xiaomi Mi Band 2 for proximity unlocking.
In addition, Xiaomi also unveiled the Mi Notebook Air 12.5-inch version. Besides being thinner and lighter, it boasts a standby time of up to 11.5 hours. The hardware specifications include an Intel Core m3 processor, 4GB of RAM, and 128GB of SSD storage (with an expandable slot), along with support for fast battery charging technology. The rest of the design is roughly the same as the 13.3-inch version, and it's available in gold and silver, along with accessories like stickers.
The 13.3-inch Mi Notebook Air will be available for RMB 4999, while the 12.5-inch model will be priced at RMB 3499. Both models are expected to go on sale on August 8nd through Xiaomi Mall and Mi Store. Xiaomi will also release exclusive protective accessories to accompany the Mi Notebook Air, made from rhino leather, PU, and velvet, with suggested retail prices of RMB 2, RMB 299, and RMB 99, respectively.
As for whether Taiwan will introduce this product, previous statements indicate that the chances are slim, as it involves issues such as pre-loaded operating system version authorization, actual taxes, and labor or quantity. There seems to be no plan to launch it in Taiwan for the time being, but the main focus will be on the subsequent announcement of Xiaomi Taiwan.
In addition, according to Xiaomi, the Xiaomi Air laptop unveiled this time is manufactured by Wistron and Inventec respectively, and is expected to be responsible for producing versions with different hardware specifications and sizes.
