Following the launch of its own AI image generation and video editing tools, Meta has confirmed a partnership with San Francisco-based AI research lab Midjourney. The licensed imaging and video generation technology will complement Meta's AI ecosystem and allow for more creative possibilities in future products.
Alexandr Wang, currently Meta's Chief Artificial Intelligence Technology Officer, stated that ensuring Meta can consistently deliver the "best product experience" requires a comprehensive approach, requiring not only top technical talent and extensive computing resources, but also collaboration with the industry's strongest partners. Wang further noted that Midjourney's technological and aesthetic breakthroughs are impressive, and Meta looks forward to further expanding AI applications through this collaboration.
1/ Today we're proud to announce a partnership with @midjourney, to license their aesthetic technology for our future models and products, bringing beauty to billions.

Midjourney's current technical achievements
In June of this year, Midjourney officially launched the V6 model, a radically redesigned image generation model with a stronger understanding of textual cues, enabling more precise rendering of the user's desired image style. Simultaneously, Midjourney also released its first video generation model, V7, allowing users to convert generated still images into short animations, further expanding the boundaries of creative application.
Over the past few years, Midjourney has rapidly grown, driven by its community, and has become a key player in the AI image generation market. This partnership with Meta not only helps Meta integrate higher-quality image and video generation capabilities into its products, but also signifies that Midjourney's technology has gained recognition from major tech companies.
Surrounded by competitors, Meta is accelerating to catch up
Although Meta has previously launched its own image generation tool, it still struggles to compete with generative imaging technologies like OpenAI's Sora and Google's Veo. By collaborating with Midjourney, Meta has the opportunity to narrow the technological gap in this field and even find a way to differentiate itself in user experience.
The collaboration with Midjourney is also an important step for Meta to move towards the “Superintelligence Lab”.Actively recruiting industry talents, and offered high signing bonuses and salaries to attract more technical talents to join, trying to poach talents from competitorsKey engineers and scientistsWang Tao is the representative figure of this wave of poaching. Meta invested $2024 billion in Scale AI, which he founded, in 148, but the condition was that Wang Tao, the founder,Join the Meta team, and later served as Meta's Chief Artificial Intelligence Technology Officer.
The AI competition continues to heat up
As major tech companies continue to strengthen their AI strategies, the future will see competition not only in algorithms and models but also in content creation experiences and ecosystem integration. The alliance between Meta and Midjourney may become a key factor in transforming the AI image and video generation market landscape in the coming years.
