MetaAnnounceIt will open the operating system used by its virtual vision headsets to third-party companies and adjust the name of the original Meta Quest software to Meta Horizon OS. The first wave will cooperate with ASUS, Lenovo and Microsoft to create virtual vision headsets using this operating system.

It's not yet possible to confirm the specific details of the virtual vision headsets that ASUS and Lenovo plan to build, but the former is expected to be produced under the ROG brand, so it is likely to target gaming applications, while the latter seems to be designed for productivity, learning and entertainment applications.
Meta also revealed that it's collaborating with Microsoft on a virtual reality headset inspired by Xbox, potentially integrating its Xbox Cloud Gaming service with the headset. Furthermore, Meta is calling on Google to bring its Google Play Store software marketplace to the Meta Horizon OS environment, thereby expanding its service ecosystem.
Meta chose to open up its virtual vision headset operating system to the public, apparently hoping to follow the model of Google's Android operating system and attract more people and businesses to use it through open source, thereby promoting the development of more virtual vision applications. It also continues to provide many virtual vision application technologies to attract more developers to adopt them and create more virtual vision application services.
