Meta announced earlier that, in order to address the long-standing video theft issues complained about by creators on Facebook and Instagram, it will officially launch a new platform called...Content protection A brand new tool for content protection. This tool automatically detects when a creator's original reel (whether full or partial) is shared to Facebook or Instagram by other accounts. Creators can view this through a dedicated dashboard and decide what action to take against these pirated videos.
The dashboard offers three options: "Tracking", "Blocking", or "Release".
According to Meta, when the "Content Protection" tool detects unauthorized use of an original Reel, creators can choose from three options in the dashboard:
• Tracking: Creators can add a tag to stolen videos indicating the original source of the video (i.e., redirecting it back to the creator's account) and continuously track the number of views of the video.
• Block: Selecting this option will completely prevent others from viewing the stolen Reel video. However, Meta also added that this action will not impose any additional penalties on the account that misappropriated the content.
• Release: The video will be removed from the dashboard, and the creator will no longer track its subsequent performance.
To help creators decide how to respond, the dashboard also provides additional information, such as whether the pirated video is monetized. This may influence whether creators decide to "track" (to obtain attribution) or "block".
Rights Manager functionality has been extended, but is currently limited to Facebook original Reels.
Meta stated that these features have been available through its [unclear - possibly a platform or service]."Rights Administrator" The Rights Manager platform was offered to select Facebook creators, but this update integrates the functionality directly into the Facebook App, making it easily accessible to a wider audience.
However, this feature still has its limitations. Meta explicitly states that "Content Protection" is currently only available to creators who share Reels on Facebook. In other words, while this tool can detect unauthorized use on Instagram, the original video must have been first published on Facebook.
Release schedule
Meta stated that the "Content Protection" feature will be rolled out gradually to creators in its "Monetization Plan" who "meet higher integrity and originality standards," as well as existing Rights Manager users, starting today. Other creators can also apply for access through the application page.
