Meta recently announced a collaboration with Ray-Ban on smart glasses at the Connect 2024 event. Will enhance more user experience, earlier announced that some new features such as natural language recognition, QR Code scanning, and parking location recording will be available to users in the United States and Canada.
According to Meta's Chief Technology Officer Andrew Bosworth, who posted on Threads, an update has been released for the smart glasses developed in collaboration with Ray-Ban, allowing users to interact with them in a more natural way. There is no need to describe the appearance of specific objects in front of them. The smart glasses can recognize and analyze them and provide relevant explanations and responses.
Other functions include message broadcast, timer, reminder function, etc. The glasses can also directly recognize phone numbers and dial them directly, or scan QR code content.
In addition, the vehicle parking position memory function, which was previously demonstrated at Connect 2024, can now be completed through glasses.
However, the instant conversation translation feature, which was also demonstrated previously, has not yet been released, and Meta has not yet announced the specific launch time of this feature.
However, recently two Harvard University students used smart glasses and facial recognition technology to conduct online "flesh searches" on people they saw in a short period of time, which seems to have brought the privacy and security issues caused by smart glasses to the surface again.
Even though Meta smart glasses will alert others through indicator lights when functions such as recording are in operation, it is actually difficult for people to notice under normal circumstances.
