Meta was the first to launch a parental control feature and function restrictions on Instagram last fall.Youth Account SystemAfter that, we are also starting to use this account systemBring it to Facebook and Messenger, thereby ensuring the safety of young people using the service.
Similar to Instagram's approach, Meta will also require teenagers aged between 13 and 15 to use the youth account system in the new version of Facebook and Messenger (younger children will not be able to use it), and will also provide relevant tools to prevent people from misrepresenting their age.
The youth account system, initially pioneered on Instagram, was primarily designed to prevent underage users from being harassed, defrauded, or viewing inappropriate content on the service. Therefore, a parental supervision function was preset in the youth account system to prevent teenagers from interacting with strangers online or changing privacy settings. Parents can even manage teenagers' service usage time and friend lists.
The announcement to extend the youth account system to Facebook and Messenger is in the hope of replicating Instagram's success and reducing the chances of teenagers being harassed in online communities and suffering physical and mental impacts.
This update also adds new features to Instagram's youth account system, requiring teenagers under the age of 16 to obtain parental consent before using the online live broadcast function. It also adds a function that automatically filters messages containing suspected nude images, thereby improving the safety of teenagers using its services.
