A few days agoCooperating with Constellation EnergyAfter signing a 20-year nuclear power procurement agreement, MetaXGS Energy, an energy company based in Texas, USAThe collaboration aims to develop a next-generation geothermal system in New Mexico to serve as a power grid for Meta's data centers and meet the growing power needs of artificial intelligence.
This collaboration will generate 150 megawatts of carbon-free energy and reduce overall water consumption to zero, primarily through geothermal power generation using New Mexico's abundant hot rock resources.
This collaboration will be implemented in two phases, both expected to be operational by 2030. Urvi Parekh, Meta's Global Head of Energy, stated that advancements in artificial intelligence require sustained energy infrastructure development. With XGS Energy's next-generation geothermal technology ready for large-scale application, geothermal energy will become a key driver of technological advancements like artificial intelligence, as well as the development of data centers across the United States.
In a recent announcement, Meta announced that it has signed a 20-year cooperation agreement with Constellation Energy, an energy company based in Baltimore, USA. Meta is expected to purchase nuclear power provided by Constellation Energy's Clinton Clean Energy Center in southern Illinois.
The agreement, expected to begin in June 2027, will see Meta acquire approximately 6 gigawatts (GW) of power from Constellation Energy's Clinton Clean Energy Center in Illinois, nearly equivalent to the output of one nuclear reactor at the center. Meta also pledged to expand the grid, but the transaction value was not disclosed.
