CCS Insight research reportRefers toBy the end of this year, the number of iPhones held worldwide will reach 13 billion, more than half of which will be second-hand models, and the average service life of iPhone models from 2024 onwards will reach more than 8 years.
This situation occurs not only because the iPhone itself still attracts many consumers, but also because the iPhone models launched each year rarely have significant differences compared to the models launched the previous year, and many functions are mostly transferred to older models. Therefore, iPhone models usually have a higher value retention and can have good circulation performance in the second-hand market.
Therefore, after an iPhone is used by its original buyer for 2-3 years, it will often enter the second-hand market due to replacements. When the user who purchased the second-hand iPhone subsequently upgrades to a new one, the second-hand iPhone may enter the second-hand market again, making the average lifespan of an iPhone longer than that of most Android phones.
Compared with the same period last year, the transaction volume of used iPhones in the first quarter of this year increased by about 27%, while the transaction volume of used Samsung phones decreased by 21%. The transaction volume of other Android phones even decreased by 32%, indicating that iPhones still account for the majority of used mobile phone transactions.
CCS Insight expects that by the end of this year, the global iPhone ownership will reach 13 billion, and by 2024 the average lifespan of all iPhone models will reach more than 8 years.
