Logitech has announced the new Signature Slim Solar+ K980 wireless keyboard, featuring light as its primary energy source and multi-device compatibility. Unlike previous wireless keyboards that relied solely on USB-C charging or battery replacement, this keyboard can be charged from any light source and can even maintain up to four months of use in complete darkness.
Unlike the common perception that solar power relies solely on sunlight, the Signature Slim Solar+ K980 effectively recharges as long as the lighting reaches 200 lux (approximately equivalent to dim daylight). Therefore, whether in the office, at home, or even in a coffee shop, the keyboard automatically charges continuously as long as there's light. This means users never have to worry about running out of power or finding a charging cable, further enhancing the convenience of wireless keyboards.
The Signature Slim Solar+ K980 features a full-size configuration with a right-side numeric keypad and scissor-key switches, creating a typing feel more like a laptop keyboard, offering a quiet and comfortable typing experience. A light-absorbing module sits above the keyboard, continuously replenishing and converting power without compromising the design. The built-in battery boasts a claimed 10-year lifespan and is user-replaceable, with parts provided by iFixit, emphasizing the product's repairability and sustainable design.
For multi-device applications, the K980 can connect to up to three devices simultaneously and quickly switch between them via the Easy-Switch button. It supports cross-platform operations, including seamless connection between Windows, macOS, iOS and Android devices, which is particularly convenient for people who need to handle work on laptops, tablets and mobile phones at the same time.
In addition, with the Logi Options+ application provided by Logitech, users can customize the shortcut key usage needs, such as setting automated operations, or mapping exclusive AI shortcut keys to commonly used chatbot services, so that they can quickly call the AI assistant with one click.
In terms of pricing, the Signature Slim Solar+ K980 wireless keyboard is available in three versions: the regular version is priced at US$100, while the business version with a USB-C receiver for enterprise users and the Mac-specific key configuration version are both priced at US$110.
