Logitech has unveiled its new productivity mouse, the MX Master 4, which builds on the design that has made it popular among professional users while also incorporating tactile feedback and a new "Actions Ring" shortcut ring feature. It's expected to be available in October with a suggested retail price of $120.
The MX Master series has always been Logitech's representative product designed for professional work environments, emphasizing ergonomic right-hand shape, support for multi-device switching, and durable scroll wheel design.
The updated MX Master 4 maintains the same overall appearance as the previous one.MX Master 3SThe shape is similar, but with minor adjustments in details. For example, the weight has been increased from 141 grams to 150 grams, and the width and height have been slightly enlarged to provide a fuller coverage for the palm.
The most notable feature is Logitech's introduction of haptic feedback (Haptics) into desktop mouse design for the first time. This allows users to receive subtle feedback via a built-in vibration module in the thumb zone during operations, such as low-battery notifications, switching between devices, or aligning objects in applications like Photoshop and Lightroom. While this feature is currently optimized for only a few apps, future SDK resources will allow more software developers to create applications that support haptic feedback.
Another new design is the Actions Ring, which allows users to quickly call up shortcut menus for different application scenarios through the side button. For example, calling up the screenshot tool in Chrome, or directly adjusting the brightness and contrast in Photoshop, making mouse operations more in line with professional work needs.
The MX Master 4's top cover is made of lightly textured plastic, replacing the previous rubber coating that was prone to peeling due to sweat and prolonged use. However, the sides and thumb rest retain the rubber material to maintain a comfortable feel. Furthermore, the bottom slider is made of a larger PTFE material for smoother operation.
Other details include a new USB-C receiver (Windows only), further adjustments to the side scroll wheel, a translucent design around the button edges, and exposed bottom screws for easier retraction. As for the user experience, the electromagnetic scroll wheel still offers switching between paragraph and free-scrolling modes, the ultra-quiet buttons maintain a good feel, and the battery life remains up to 70 days.
However, the new model still has some limitations, such as the input reporting rate remains at 125Hz, a USB-C charging cable is not included in the package, and the Mac version no longer provides a receiver. In addition, haptic feedback must be enabled in the Options + software running state.
Overall, the MX Master 4 represents an iterative upgrade rather than a radical overhaul, but its haptic feedback and quick-release ring further underscore its professional-focused positioning. For users who spend extended periods of time at their computers, this new mouse remains a high-performance option, continuing the series' tradition.
