LINE merged with Yahoo Japan in 2021, becoming a subsidiary of Z Holdings, a joint venture between NAVER and Softbank and the original Z Holdings. Earlier this year, citing declining performance in advertising and e-commerce, LINE announced a merger with its parent company, Z Holdings, as a subsidiary of Z Holdings. The new company will be led by Z Holdings Co-CEO Takeshi Idezawa as CEO, while former Z Holdings Co-CEO Kentaro Kawabe will serve as Chairman. Shin Sho, who spearheaded the development of LINE services, will serve as Representative Director.
The recent announcement is that LINE and Yahoo Japan will be merged, and the name of the new company after the integration of the parent company Z Holdings will be changed to LY Corporation.
LINE Taiwan emphasized that it will not be affected by the change in organizational name, and will therefore continue to operate under the names of LINE Taiwan and Taiwan Link Co., Ltd. As for services, apart from adjustments to the supplier names, the service names will basically remain unchanged.
