With CES 2026 just around the corner next month, major manufacturers are starting to unveil their new audio-visual products. LG and Dolby recently announced the launch of their new modular home audio system – LG Sound Suite. The biggest selling point of this system is that it is the first time that Dolby Atmos FlexConnect technology has been applied to a soundbar product, claiming to break spatial limitations and free users from having to move furniture to accommodate speaker placement.
It can be freely combined like building blocks, and supports up to 13.1.7 channels.
The LG Sound Suite employs a highly modular design concept, and its product lineup includes:
• H7 Soundbar (Main Channel)
• M7 / M5 Wireless Surround Speakers
• W7 Bass
Users can expand from the most basic two-channel combination to more than 20 configurations, depending on their budget and living room size, with the top-of-the-line configuration even capable of forming a 13.1.7-channel surround theater system.
No problem if the items are misaligned; FlexConnect technology will help correct them.
The core of this system is Dolby Atmos FlexConnect technology, which was originally designed to enable the built-in speakers of a TV to work together with wireless speakers, and is now being used for the first time in a soundbar product.
Its operating principle is to detect the position of each speaker in the space through microphones (whether it is placed on top of a bookshelf, in the corner of a sofa, or asymmetrically placed), and automatically adjust the sound output and balance the sound field. This solves the most troublesome problems of "sweet spot" and "wiring" in traditional home theaters. Even if limited by the location of the socket or the layout of the room (for example, one side of the living room has a floor-to-ceiling window), it can obtain an optimized Dolby Atmos listening experience through software calculation.
It can be used with any TV.
It's worth noting that as long as the H7 Soundbar is the core, this FlexConnect feature can be applied to any brand of TV, essentially allowing older TVs to be upgraded effortlessly.
LG has also promised that future software updates will allow some high-end TV models (including certain 2025 models) to directly support Dolby Atmos FlexConnect technology, providing more flexible wireless connectivity.
Analysis and perspective: Solving the pain point of "the living room is not square"
In my opinion, the emergence of LG Sound Suite has precisely addressed a pain point in modern home spaces: not everyone's living room is square, and not everyone can find an outlet behind the sofa to place around it.
With FlexConnect technology, users can finally "hide" speakers in suitable locations or integrate them into their interior design, rather than sacrificing space for sound quality. This approach of using software computation to overcome physical space limitations (Computational Audio) will be the mainstream trend for future home theaters.
LG brought this technology from TVs to its soundbar system, significantly lowering the barrier to entry and making more consumers willing to try multi-channel systems.
