In addition to celebrating the 100th anniversary of the I-type camera, the company also launched a series of cameras engraved with different city names.M11 100th Anniversary Limited EditionTo celebrate the centenary of 35mm film photography, Leica has released a new in-house black-and-white film, "MONOPAN 50." It not only continues the traditional classics, but also combines high resolution with modern imaging needs, allowing film photography enthusiasts to reinterpret classic light and shadow with extreme details.
Leica launches its first in-house 35mm film, continuing its century-old legacy
In 1925, the Leica I debuted at the Leipzig Spring Fair, sparking a revolution in 35mm photography and laying the foundation for the subsequent development of compact cameras and film formats. In 2025, Leica celebrates a century of photographic craftsmanship with the "MONOPAN 50," its latest creation symbolizing the brand's expansion from camera manufacturing into film, offering a more complete imaging experience.
From digital Monochrom to film-based Monopan 50, redefining black and white aesthetics
The name MONOPAN 50 draws inspiration from "Mono" for black-and-white imaging, "Pan" for panchromatic sensitivity, and "50," representing the ISO sensitivity value. It continues the black-and-white aesthetic of the Leica Monochrom digital series, condensing exquisite detail, sharp contrast, and smooth gradations in every frame of film.
This film boasts an exceptionally high resolution of 280 lp/mm (line pairs per millimeter) and full-color spectrum sensitivity down to 780nm. Besides being suitable for everyday black-and-white photography, it can also be used with infrared photography to create dramatic images.
Designed for high-end lenses, delivering optimal bokeh and sweeping details
With a sensitivity of ISO 50/18°, the MONOPAN 50 is particularly well-suited for use with high-speed lenses such as the Leica Summilux-M, Noctilux-M, and Summicron-M. It enables wide-aperture shooting even in bright sunlight, showcasing the signature Leica bokeh. Its exceptionally fine grain ensures excellent detail preservation even in large-scale output and high-resolution scanning.
In addition, MONOPAN 50 supports most black and white developing solutions, allowing you to maximize your imaging potential whether you are developing your images in a home darkroom or using a professional developer.
Made in Germany, the photography style continues the classic craftsmanship aesthetics
The newly released MONOPAN 50 is made in Germany, blending vintage style with modern craftsmanship, from the film quality to the packaging design. Whether it's urban street photography, architectural photography, landscape travel, or experimenting with filters, the MONOPAN 50 offers photographers greater creative freedom.
The suggested retail price is NT$450 and it is expected to be available in Leica stores and authorized channels worldwide from August 2025, 8.
