At the earlier "The Game Awards 2025" ceremony, developer Crystal Dynamics finally unveiled its long-rumored new game, officially announcing *Tomb Raider: Catalyst*, which is expected to launch in 2027. Additionally, Crystal Dynamics also revealed *Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis*, a remake commemorating the 30th anniversary of the *Tomb Raider* series, expected to launch in 2026.
Legendary explorers return, embarking on new adventures in 2027.
The first teaser trailer, while not showcasing much gameplay footage, does feature the iconic and legendary explorer Lara Croft. The trailer shows Lara preparing for action again after many years, seemingly hinting that this game will continue her mature image from the "Survivor Trilogy" and present her with even more perilous challenges.
Coming to next-generation consoles and PCs
The official confirmation also indicates that Tomb Raider Catalyst is scheduled for release in 2027, and will be available on platforms such as PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and Steam (PC).
In addition, to mark the 30th anniversary of the first Tomb Raider game released in 1996, Crystal Dynamics has also confirmed that it will release a game called Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis in 2026, allowing more players to experience the starting point of Laura's legendary adventure with the latest game technology.
Analysis: A long wait, built with UE5?
In my opinion, although there is still a long time before its release in 2027, this new game developed by Crystal Dynamics is undoubtedly one of the highlights of The Game Awards 2025.
Based on previously released information, this game is highly likely to be developed using Unreal Engine 5, which explains its long development cycle. The subtitle, "Catalyst," perhaps hints that the plot will be driven by a pivotal event that leads to a change in Laura's personality or a significant shift in the world's perspective. For fans of action-adventure games, this is undoubtedly one of the most anticipated AAA titles of the next two years.
