Although Lamborghini CEO Stephan Winkelmann recently stated that he would invest in the development of all-electric vehicles, it is clear thatThere are still no plans to completely abandon the traditional fuel vehicle layout, but rather as previously explained, by extending the life cycle of the internal combustion engine through synthetic fuels.
The Lamborghini Day Germany 2025 was held in Munich, Germany earlier this year.Reckless, becoming Lamborghini's first model to use synthetic fuel. It is powered by a newly developed 4.0-liter twin-turbocharged V8 engine with a speed of up to 10000 rpm, and is equipped with three electric motors to achieve highly efficient hybrid output.
As for its power source, the Temerario can use both conventional gasoline and synthetic fuels, symbolizing the continuation of the internal combustion engine. Lamborghini Chief Technical Officer Rouven Mohr stated that while synthetic fuels are not expected to be more efficient than fossil fuels, they are expected to be key to the continued operation of the internal combustion engine. The new engine design used in the Temerario achieves optimal output performance conversion efficiency between the two fuels.
Amid the trend toward electrification, Rouven Mohr stated that Lamborghini is accelerating the development of its first all-electric vehicle. However, he also believes that while electric systems offer environmental and technological advantages, they still lag behind traditional internal combustion engine models in terms of driving emotion and excitement. However, Rouven Mohr also noted that traditional internal combustion engines will eventually transition fully to electric operation, but the transition shouldn't be immediate.
Rouven Mohr explained that the high percentage of Lamborghini's classic models still on the road today necessitates a sustainable energy solution for these vehicles. Synthetic fuels offer a potential solution that balances future regulations with the need for historical preservation, particularly in light of the EU's expected ban on the sale of internal combustion engine vehicles starting in 2035.
At the same time, the launch of Temerario has prompted the market to reconsider the view that "electrification may not be the only solution." Lamborghini's position also clearly demonstrates that between the wave of pure electric vehicles and the extreme speed driven by traditional internal combustion engines, synthetic fuels are opening up another development direction, while retaining the roar of the engine, also moving towards environmental sustainability.
In addition to Lamborghini, Porsche and Toyota also proposedThrough synthetic fuels, orFuel cellExtend the life cycle of the internal combustion engine in other ways.
