At the Milan International Motor Show in Italy, which opened earlier this month, Kymco announced the launch of the i-Tuber, a multi-purpose electric scooter for transportation. The company also announced the Ionex BMU (Battery Metering Module), which can be used with any electric scooter. This system, combined with the Ionex OS cloud service, establishes a battery rental system. Kymco hopes to attract more players to the electric scooter market and accelerate the industry's growth.
Compared to Gogoro's previous PBGN ecosystem, which also provided basic motor systems in conjunction with the Gogoro Network battery swap system, Kymco stated that its Ionex BMU solution will enable more companies to lower the barriers to entry into the electric motorcycle market through its battery system. Companies only need to focus on manufacturing the vehicle itself, and Kymco will assist in completing the basic battery system construction, thereby reducing the manufacturing costs of electric motorcycles.
Attracting more companies to join the electric scooter market means consumers will have more choices and accelerate the popularization of electric scooters, making the average price of vehicles more affordable as they become more popular. At the same time, the Ionex BMU can also be used to add more smart application functions to vehicles.
In addition, while Gogoro continues to promote the PBGN ecosystem, Kymco is also providing platforms and solutions to help more companies join the market development. This is expected to create more competition in the market and enable the electric motorcycle market to develop in a positive way.
The i-Tuber, a multi-functional electric transport scooter unveiled at the Milan International Motor Show, is equipped with a 3600kW in-wheel motor and a lightweight body capable of achieving a top speed of 70km/h. Its dual batteries and double seats make it suitable for daily commuting, logistics delivery, and passenger transport. The i-Tuber Carry model in the series offers a higher cargo capacity to meet various commercial needs.
