Kitty Hawk, a new flying car startup invested by Google co-founder Larry Page,Officially declared bankruptcy.
Kitty Hawk was founded in 2010 and subsequently invested in by Larry Page for a long time. However, after it decided to cancel the early Flyer flying car project in 2020 and shifted its focus to the later-stage Heaviside, which will operate with all-electric drive, emphasizing vertical take-off and landing, and the flight process will produce less noise than existing helicopters, it has clearly begun to decline.
The reasons for this included a conflict between Chief Engineer Damon Vander Lind, Larry Page, and Kitty Hawk CEO Sebastian Thrun, which ultimately led to his departure and the subsequent layoff of 70 employees. However, the main factor was Kitty Hawk's inability to find a profitable path, which ultimately led to its closure.
Kitty Hawk's previous joint venture with Boeing, Wisk Aero, and its Cora flying car project designed for two people are not currently affected by Kitty Hawk's bankruptcy.
