Following recent leaks of new details, Amazon has officially announced the release of its new Kindle Oasis e-reader, confirming its asymmetrical design, offering a new digital reading experience. The device will be priced at $289.99. The Kindle Oasis will also come with a built-in battery case, available in red, black, and brown.
According to Amazon, the Kindle Oasis aims to help users rethink the digital reading experience, making reading more natural. Therefore, the device features an asymmetrical design with varying thicknesses on the left and right sides to accommodate one-handed grip and achieve a balanced weight. Furthermore, the Kindle Oasis also features a gravity sensor for the first time, detecting the user's grip and automatically adjusting the display's orientation.
A similar design was first seen on the Sony Xperia Tablet S, which cleverly placed the center of gravity in the palm of your hand through its book-like design. However, this design struggled to gain market acceptance at the time, so whether the Kindle Oasis will face the same challenges remains to be seen.
In terms of hardware specifications, the Kindle Oasis features a plastic body coated with a special electroplated alloy, weighing only 131 grams. Its 6-inch screen adopts the Paperwhite specifications and uses LED backlighting, boasting a display density of 300 PPI. The Kindle Oasis itself only boasts a maximum battery life of approximately two weeks, but with a leather case with a built-in battery module, the overall battery life can be extended to approximately seven weeks. This will be released alongside the Kindle Oasis.
Kindle Oasis is expected to be available for pre-order from now on. The leather protective cover that comes with it will be available in three colors: black, brown, and red. It is expected to be available for delivery at the end of April.
