Regarding previous market reportsSony is reportedly interested in acquiring Kadokawa GroupLater, Kadokawa GroupRespondIt said it has received preliminary expressions of interest for the acquisition, but no decision has been made.
Kadokawa Group stated that if there is a need to announce facts to the public in the future, it will make an announcement immediately.
Sony currently holds a roughly 2% stake in Kadokawa and also partially owns FromSoftware, a game developer in which Kadokawa has a significant investment. Market speculation suggests Sony may be expanding its entertainment content business through the acquisition of Kadokawa, while also indirectly acquiring a significant stake in FromSoftware and potentially strengthening its PlayStation gaming business.
Since Kadokawa Group owns entertainment content businesses such as Kadokawa Shoten, Kadokawa Gakugei Publishing, ASCII Media Works, Fujimi Shobo, Chukei Publishing, Kadokawa Magazine, and Enterbrain, as well as many content assets of Kadokawa Games, as well as game developer FromSoftware, which has launched games such as "Demon's Souls", "Dark Souls" series, "Bloodborne", "Sekiro", and "Elden Ring", this may also be a potential reason for Sony's rumored acquisition of Kadokawa Group.
