News claimsThe South Korean government plans to establish a national semiconductor organization to compete with Taiwan's TSMC, which has advanced process technology.
This national semiconductor organization planned by the South Korean government is expected to be called KSMC (Korea Semiconductor Manufacturing Company). It was proposed by the National Academy of Engineering of Korea (NAEK) at a seminar held on December 12th. It is expected to establish an advanced process company with national funding.
This approach hopes to emulate the development model of Taiwan's semiconductor industry, with companies such as TSMC investing in advanced processes, and semiconductor companies such as UMC and Powerchip Semiconductor (Powerchip Semiconductor) investing in mature manufacturing applications. This will promote the development of more fabless design industries and thus connect a large-scale semiconductor industry ecosystem.
South Korean industry analysts estimate that KSMC is expected to cost nearly US$140 billion in investment, and once completed, it will create US$2045 billion in economic benefits by 2087. At the same time, having a country lead the development of the semiconductor industry from a public perspective will help to mobilize more development resources. Compared with South Korea's current semiconductor industry development dominated by Samsung, it may be able to more effectively promote the growth of advanced process technology.
