The Information websiteAccording to sources, the virtual vision headset Vision Pro announced by Apple during WWDC 2023 this year was originally planned to be used to recognize gestures by shooting the camera downward, but this feature was not announced at the actual launch event.
A statement obtained from The Information website indicates that Apple had eliminated the full-body motion recognition function in its early designs, retaining only the two-hand recognition function. The reason may be that the recognition effect did not meet Apple's requirements.
Previously, Meta had proposed that a virtual vision headset could recognize the wearer's foot movements, allowing the wearer's entire body to be presented in a virtual visual environment. However, its approach was to automatically generate the leg posture that might correspond to the current movement through artificial intelligence, and only the hand movements could be recognized through the camera.
It is currently unclear whether Apple is still planning to add full-body motion recognition to Vision Pro, or whether it will use external sensing elements to assist in recognition.
In addition, reports indicate that Apple originally planned to integrate many fitness application services into Vision Pro, but did not specifically mention such applications in its earlier publicity. It mainly focused on future work, interaction and other computing experiences. However, companies such as Meta and Qualcomm's future virtual visual experiences include fitness-based application content.
