In response to market rumors, Huawei revealed in September this year that the next version of Hongmeng operating system will eliminate AOSP (Android Open Source Project) related codes, which means that it may no longer be compatible with Android platform apps and will only be compatible with Hongmeng kernel and system-compatible apps. Related news also stated that Huawei is indeed planning to create an incompatible Android platform app next year.HarmonyOS Next (HarmonyOS Next), but there is no final confirmation yet.

Reports indicate that Huawei's next version of its Hongmeng operating system, Hongmeng Next, will no longer be compatible with existing Android platform apps, attracting many service providers to join in content creation.

According to current news, many services in China have begun to create compatible versions for the HarmonyOS to respond to the latest adjustments to the HarmonyOS. Services including Meituan, Air China, BabyBus, and Tongcheng Travel have gradually added compatibility with the HarmonyOS. Even NetEase has recently included positions familiar with the development of the HarmonyOS environment in its external recruitment vacancies.

Relevant data shows that the number of HarmonyOS ecosystem devices has accumulated to over 7 million, and more than 220 million developers have joined the HarmonyOS ecosystem. It has also established its own AppGallery software market and established a huge ecosystem through Huawei's current sales scale in China and the global market.

Huawei announced the launch of its HarmonyOS in August 2019. This was primarily due to the US ban on technology exports to the Chinese market, which resulted in Google no longer being able to license its GMS services to Huawei. Huawei was forced to rely solely on the open-source AOSP codebase, a measure that maintained sales of its smartphones while also further expanding the HarmonyOS ecosystem.

At the 8th Huawei Developer Conference held in Songshan Lake, Dongguan, Guangzhou in August this year, Huawei announcedHongmeng OS 4.0 (HarmonyOS 4), which adds automatically generated artificial intelligence to the digital assistant service Xiaoyi to improve voice, semantic, and image recognition capabilities, and can provide functions such as automatic image generation, summary document key points, and content rewriting. The operation interface adds message prompt visual effects similar to iOS 17, while strengthening the cross-platform integration application effect between different vehicles.

In addition to mobile phones and other devices, Huawei also plans to bring the Harmony operating system to PC devices next year to build a more complete Huawei ecosystem.
