Microsoft earlierAnnouncePartnering with iFixit allows consumers to purchase official replacement parts for Xbox Series X|S through the Microsoft Store or iFixit, and allows consumers to perform repairs themselves.
Prior to this, Microsoft only sold official replacement parts for the Xbox Series X|S through its own channels. The expansion of its cooperation with iFixit will make it easier for consumers to repair the Xbox Series X|S themselves.
In addition, starting January 1, Microsoft will cooperate with Asurion, a provider of mobile phone insurance, extended repairs, and technical support, to provide Xbox Series X|S repair services through its uBreakiFix subsidiary, which has nearly 20 locations in the United States. This will also make it the first third-party Xbox repair provider authorized by Microsoft, giving users who are unable to repair their own products or who are patiently waiting for Microsoft's official repair services more options.
This collaboration not only echoes the ongoing push for the right to repair in the United States in recent years, but also reduces the frequency of Xbox console replacements by making repairs easier for consumers, thereby reducing Microsoft's impact on environmental sustainability.
Microsoft emphasized that through this collaboration, it will extend the lifespan of consumers' Xbox game consoles. It also emphasized that the current packaging of the Xbox Series X|S no longer uses disposable plastics, but is instead packaged in paper and fiber materials. It also explained that through recent firmware updates, the video processing efficiency of the Xbox Series S has been improved, thereby reducing power consumption by approximately 10% in operations such as video playback, and its game studios have also begun to create and execute games that can use even less electricity.
