Apple's spring product lineup is about to hit the market! According to Bloomberg News reporter Mark Gurman...statementApple is expected to unveil a series of new products as early as March 2nd, US time, through a three-day online and physical event. Among them, the most anticipated is the long-rumored "low-cost, affordable MacBook," which may be sold at a friendly price starting at $599 (approximately NT$19000). It is said that Apple has high expectations for it, believing that its "extreme cost-effectiveness" will effectively attract a large number of Windows laptop and Chromebook users to switch to the Mac ecosystem.

Rumors about this affordable MacBook have been circulating for the past year, and as the launch date approaches, its hardware specifications and market positioning are becoming increasingly clear. If the leaks are true, this would be Apple's boldest pricing strategy and hardware experiment in its Mac product line in recent years.

The A18 Pro crossover driver boasts hardware specifications that emphasize "extreme cost-effectiveness".

In order to maintain Apple's consistent user experience while keeping costs down, this new affordable MacBook has made considerable compromises in its specifications. Based on current information, this entry-level machine is expected to have the following features:

• iPhone flagship chip delivered to lower-end devices:It abandons the Mac-exclusive M-series chip and adopts the A18 Pro chip, which is on par with the iPhone 16 Pro, along with 8GB of memory, which is sufficient to handle most daily document and web browsing needs.

• 12.9-inch compact screen:It features a 12.9-inch display, slightly smaller than the current MacBook Air. To control costs, True Tone may be removed, and the peak screen brightness will be slightly reduced.

• Colorful aluminum alloy body:Maintaining the high-quality aluminum alloy body design, and possibly launching multiple youthful and vibrant "Fun Color" color options, targeting students and young people.

• Minimal storage space:It is expected that only two storage capacity options will be available: 256GB and 512GB.

• Market-shaking pricing:The starting price may be $599.

Apple is extremely optimistic: preparing for a "job-hopping frenzy".

Apple seems very confident about this affordable MacBook. Mark Gurman points out that Apple positions this product as "incredible value."

Apple executives believe that this highly disruptive price will not only attract a large number of users who originally used Windows laptops or Chromebooks to switch sides, but may even encourage Apple fans who "only have iPhones but have never bought a Mac" to purchase their first Apple computer.

As a result, Apple Store employees have even been notified to reserve longer shifts on the first day of sales and to set up dedicated display tables in the store to prepare for a buying frenzy comparable to the "iPhone launch day".

Three-day spring launch party

Besides the affordable MacBook, this week's "Apple New Product Week" lineup is equally star-studded.

Starting March 2 (Monday), Apple is expected to unveil the new products through online press releases, and will hold a physical media event on March 4 (Wednesday) as the grand finale.

It is expected that this spring lineup will also include the highly anticipated affordable iPhone 17e, a MacBook Air with an M5 chip, and a MacBook Pro with M5 Pro/M5 Max chips (keeping the existing design) for professional users. In addition, there will also be regular hardware upgrades for the iPad and iPad Air.

Analysis of viewpoints

In the past, the biggest barrier preventing most consumers from entering the Mac ecosystem was "price." Now, leveraging its powerful Apple Silicon R&D capabilities, Apple has directly transferred the A18 Pro chip, with its extremely high yield and already amortized costs, to laptops. This not only solves the cost problem, but the A18 Pro's energy efficiency, combined with the massive battery capacity of laptops, is expected to deliver incredibly impressive battery life.

With a price point of $599, this MacBook is not expected to impact the market for Apple's existing MacBook Air, but will directly target the high-end Chromebook market and the entry-level Windows document printer market under NT$2.

While foreign media reporters remain skeptical about the "queue frenzy on the first day of sale," believing it to be more of a long-term bestseller that needs time to gain traction, it's undeniable that once the price barrier is broken, this "cheapest Mac" will inevitably create a fierce battle in the education and light office sectors.
