Humane's AI Pin smart wearable deviceSuffering a crushing defeatFollowing this, Apple appears to be planning to demonstrate how such devices should be designed. According to reports from The Information and Bloomberg News, Apple plans to launch a smart wearable device similar to a thicker version of the AirTag as early as 2027. Meanwhile, Siri, long criticized for its lack of intelligence, will also undergo a major redesign codenamed "Campos," expected to integrate the Google Gemini model and transform into a conversational robot similar to ChatGPT.
Apple's AI Pin: It looks like an AirTag, but it has "eyes".
According to the report, the device, which is still in the early stages of development, is a round, flat disc made of aluminum and glass, and looks like a "slightly thicker AirTag".
Despite its small size, it boasts a surprisingly rich hardware configuration. It is expected to feature:
• Dual-lens system:It includes a standard lens and a wide-angle lens for capturing and identifying the user's surroundings.
• Radio reception and speaker playback:It has three built-in microphones and one speaker.
• Entity operation:A physical button is located on the edge.
• Charging method:It uses magnetic inductive charging, similar to the Apple Watch.
Apple seems very confident about this product, with rumors suggesting an initial shipment target of 2000 million units. However, the product is still in its early stages, and there is still a possibility that things could change or even be canceled.
Besides Apple, Lenovo's Motorola has also proposed codenames.Project MaxwellThe concept wearable device is designed to be kept on for extended periods, allowing for continuous video recording via a built-in camera. It can also be attached to the body with magnetic accessories and serves as a personal assistant tool through AI interaction.
Siri transforms into "Campos": Teaming up with Google Gemini to save IQ
Beyond hardware, the AI revolution in software is even more significant. Bloomberg reporter Mark Gurman has obtained information indicating that Apple is preparing to completely revamp Siri, transforming it from a simple voice assistant into a more interactive AI chatbot.
This project, codenamed "Campos," is expected to launch with iOS 27, iPadOS 27, and macOS 27. Notably, Apple does not intend to release a standalone app for it; instead, it plans to deeply integrate it into the system, replacing the existing Siri interface.
This change also echoes Apple's announcement in January.Partnering with GoogleApple plans to incorporate Google's Gemini model technology into future versions of Siri. This demonstrates that, lagging behind its competitors in the field of generative AI, Apple has opted for a "if you can't beat them, join them" strategy, leveraging external resources to strengthen its ecosystem.
Prior to this, users are expected to see some updates to the current Siri features in iOS 26.4, including AI interaction features that were promised back in 2024 but have been delayed until now.
Analysis of viewpoints
The failure of Humane AI Pin serves as a stark reminder of Apple's decision to enter the market with a similar product design at this particular time, which is indeed intriguing.
Apple's advantage lies in its strong ecosystem integration capabilities, while a major reason for Humane's failure is its attempt to "replace the phone." However, Apple's "AI Pin" is likely to be positioned as an "extended sense" for the iPhone—a camera and microphone worn around the neck, used to capture life or perform visual recognition at any time without having to frequently take out the phone.
However, the biggest challenge is probably "privacy." Apple has always touted its privacy protection, but a device that hangs on your body, has dual cameras, and could be recording or listening at any time sounds like a hidden surveillance device. How Apple can convince the public that this "thicker version of AirTag" will not become a spy camera will be a major marketing challenge.
As for Siri embracing Gemini, it's a pragmatic compromise. Rather than working in isolation to catch up with competitors, it's better to directly introduce a mature Google model, allowing iOS users to enjoy a first-tier AI experience. This is definitely good for consumers, but it also signifies that Apple has temporarily chosen to take a back seat in the battle for self-developed LLM (Large Language Model).
