Bloomberg News reporter Mark Gurman in his latest "Power On" columnPoint outApple's plans to expand its iOS advertising business are "making progress," and the next target may beBuilt-in Apple Maps app, we may see related advertising integration as early as next year.
Mark Gurman pointed out that this plan will allow restaurants or other businesses to pay to have their store information promoted more prominently in map search results. This model is said to be similar to the App StoreSearch Ads (Search Ads), developers can pay to have their apps appear in the top promotional column of relevant search results.
In a similar way, Google has already provided similar services in its Google Maps service, allowing restaurants to promote their own restaurants through paid promotion and increase search visibility, becoming part of Google's advertising revenue source.
The report also mentioned that Apple's strategy will reportedly use AI technology to ensure that relevant and useful advertising results are provided, and it is expected that the interface presentation will be better than similar advertising solutions from competitors such as Google Maps.
However, Mark Gurman also warned that this move undoubtedly carries the risk of triggering a backlash from some consumers. After all, the core of map services is to provide objective and accurate geographic information. If it is overly commercialized or interfered with by too many advertisements, it may affect the user experience.
After App Store advertising has caused some controversy, if Apple really expands advertising to Apple Maps services, it will inevitably test again how it can strike a balance between revenue growth and user experience.
