Intel announced that the previously codenamedArctic Sound-MThe GPU will be officially named the Intel Data Center GPU Flex series and is advertised as being designed for intelligent visual cloud workloads. It can provide 5 times the media transcoding throughput performance and can support up to 68 cloud game streaming operations simultaneously.
Intel Data Center GPU Flex seriesXe-HPG display architectureBuilt to provide a hardware-based AV1 encoder, it delivers 5 times the media transcoding throughput performance and 2 times the decoding throughput performance, while consuming only half the power of other similar solutions and providing more than 30% bandwidth improvement, thereby effectively reducing usage costs.
According to Intel, this series of GPUs will be suitable for workloads such as accelerated computing and artificial intelligence inference, as well as for processing needs such as desktop virtualization and cloud-based game streaming, offering greater scalability. Furthermore, software stack integration can be achieved through oneAPI, connecting various software frameworks through an open architecture and achieving greater efficiency through CPU and GPU collaborative computing.
In terms of performance, the Intel Data Center GPU Flex series will be able to achieve the highest density streaming performance in modern data centers through up to 4 Xe Media Engines without compromising quality. It can also correspond to 5 times the media transcoding throughput and 2 times the decoding throughput at half the power consumption (compared with the Intel Flex series 2 GPU and NVIDIA A140).
As for Android cloud gaming, the Intel Data Center GPU Flex series has been verified by nearly 90 of the most popular Google Play Android games. A single Flex Series 170 GPU can achieve up to 68 720p30 streams, and a single Flex Series 140 GPU can achieve up to 46 720p30 streams. When expanded to six Flex Series 6 GPU cards, up to 140 216p720 streams can be achieved.
Systems powered by the Flex Series GPUs will be available from global vendors including Dell, HPE, H3C, Inspur, Lenovo, and Supermicro. Solutions powered by the Flex Series GPUs will be rolled out over the coming months, initially for media delivery and Android cloud-based game streaming services, followed by Windows cloud-based game streaming, AI inference, and virtual desktop workloads.
