AnnounceCore Ultra series laptop processors codenamed "Meteor Lake"Later, Intel also held an event in Taiwan today (12/15) to emphasize that its processors are driving the development of AI PC products. It also boasted that its products can provide higher computing performance than other competing brands, and correspond to lower power consumption and longer battery life.
Intel emphasizes using more complete technologies to drive the growth of the AI PC market
Intel expects AI PC products to account for 2028% of the PC market by 80. In addition to offering designs with higher performance and improved battery life, AI PCs also provide a complete software and hardware ecosystem, as well as comprehensive wireless connectivity technologies, to deliver a superior user experience.
The processors launched this time will be used in more than 230 AI PC products launched by Acer, Asus, Dell, Dynabook, Gigabyte, HP, Lenovo, LG, MSI, Samsung, as well as industry players including Microsoft and Google. Intel also stated that artificial intelligence will become more ubiquitous in the future and will change the previous computing model.
Compared to competitors' processors that integrate AI computing, Intel claims its processors can deliver higher computing performance in multi-threaded environments and operate at relatively low power consumption, thereby extending device battery life. Display performance has also been significantly improved, driven by the next-generation Intel Arc GPU design, or by combining it with NPU computing components to enhance AI execution efficiency.
At the same time, Intel also stated that it combines its Wi-Fi 6E and Wi-Fi 7 wireless connection technologies, supports the next-generation Bluetooth LE Audio technology, and can integrate more intuitive wireless application functions through Intel Union technology, making laptop operation easier.
Along with the launch of the Core Ultra series of laptop processors, Intel has also updated the Intel Evo certification to include new laptops built by more OEMs, making it easier for consumers to identify laptop specifications.
The concept of AI PC is not a recent one, but it will have a more obvious growth trend in 2024.
In fact, the concept of AI PC is not a recent one. In the past, AI computing on devices has been promoted through the CPU and GPU design of processors, or by combining them with the computing performance of independent graphics cards. However, if AI models with larger parameter scales are to be executed, cloud-based collaborative computing is mostly required.
This time, the NPU computing element is integrated into the Core Ultra series processors to share the CPU and GPU computing resource burden when executing artificial intelligence services. This not only allows the laptop to maintain stable execution efficiency, but also enables the laptop to execute various large-scale natural language models and complete calculations on the laptop device without the need to upload them to the cloud for collaborative calculations, thereby speeding up the computing response speed on the device side and maintaining the laptop's long-term battery life.
Qualcomm and AMD have both proposed processor products that integrate NPU computing components this year, hoping to promote the development of laptop products designed in the form of AI PCs. Although Apple has not emphasized the concept of AI PC design, it has also integrated NPU computing components into the design of Apple Silicon processors and added artificial intelligence computing to software applications. Coupled with Intel's announcement of the Core Ultra series processors, it is expected that AI PC products will become a key development project in 2024.
