Infineon Technologies, along with Feiniao Automotive and the Taiwan Guardian Alliance Social Welfare Association, has joined the "Love in Safe Living" social welfare project. The project will provide environmental detectors, millimeter-wave radar sensors, and peripheral equipment and installation costs to help the Leshan Correctional Institution in Bali District, New Taipei City, improve its ability to detect unexpected environmental events. This will improve the living environment safety of vulnerable groups, elderly people living alone, or those residing in nursing homes.
Since the elderly have a relatively reduced ability to recognize environmental changes, their reactions and judgments when a fire occurs are likely to be slow. In addition, their mobility is relatively slow, resulting in delayed evacuation time.
In addition, the elderly spend relatively longer time indoors. When the concentration of carbon dioxide is too high, it is easy to cause discomfort symptoms such as lack of energy, headaches, dizziness, drowsiness, and even increase the risk of infection such as respiratory viruses. Therefore, maintaining good living air quality and safety through smart technology, and even providing real-time notification when accidents occur, will improve the safety of elderly people's home life.
The smart detection system donated by Infineon includes its 60GHz millimeter-wave radar sensor, which can accurately detect micro-movements, allowing family members or nursing homes to understand the condition of the elderly, and an environmental sensor with built-in carbon dioxide sensing function. Both can transmit detection data to the cloud in real time through Infineon microcontrollers and wireless networking technology, allowing users to query remotely through mobile apps in real time, or use the sensor linkage function to make emergency notifications, allowing fire and rescue units to provide rescue and corresponding assistance resources more quickly.
"As a global leader in semiconductor technology and IoT solutions, Infineon has been deeply rooted in Taiwan for nearly 25 years," said Tianchun Chen, General Manager of Infineon Technologies Taiwan. "With the vision of making our communities a better place, we are pleased to be able to give back to society through our expertise. Working with our partners Feiniao Automotive and Guardian Alliance, through an AIoT system built on Infineon's sensing and IoT technologies, we will work together to improve the safety of homes for vulnerable groups and the elderly, creating more convenient and safer lives."
Yu Zilian, Chairman of the Guardian Alliance, said, "We thank Infineon for its generous support of the Love in Safe Living public welfare project. These smart detection devices will be combined with the Guardian Alliance's cross-domain and multi-faceted automatic notification system to improve the living environment safety of vulnerable elderly populations. In the future, we look forward to having more partners join us and work together to protect Taiwanese society."
In addition to pioneering the installation of relevant application equipment at the Leshan Correctional Institution, Infineon stated that it will also assist in installing assistive devices in more suitable homes for disadvantaged groups in the future, based on recommendations from the Guardian Alliance.
