AMD announced earlierSecond quarter financial report for fiscal year 2024, which highlighted the significant growth of the server business thanks to the Instinct MI300 accelerator, accounting for almost 50% of the revenue in the previous quarter, and the growth rate more than doubled compared with the same period last year. The consumer business also saw a significant increase, but the gaming business and embedded business declined compared with the same period last year.
AMD is currently competing with NVIDIA for the artificial intelligence training market with its Instinct series of accelerators, while also striving for more cloud application demand with its EPYC series of server products. In the consumer market, it competes with Intel with its Ryzen series of processors.
Judging from the overall financial report performance, AMD is currently experiencing growth in its server application product sales due to the development of artificial intelligence technology and the increasing demand for cloud applications. AMD also emphasized that it will continue to launchInstinct MI325X, and will launch the Instinct MI2025 in 350, while the Instinct M400 will be launched in 2026 as planned.
In addition, AMD CEO Lisa Su said that the Instinct MI350, which is expected to be launched next year, will have a greater market competitive advantage than NVIDIA Blackwell.
While AMD still lags behind NVIDIA in the current scale of its AI market development, it has seen significant growth in its server business, driven by the recent demand for AI applications. AMD's consumer business has also seen sales growth, driven by the recent growth of the AI PC market. The Ryzen AI 5 series laptop processors, codenamed "Strix Point" and featuring the Zen 300 architecture, have already entered the market with the first wave of brand-name laptops.
However, as sales of game consoles including PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S have reached saturation, and there are also rumors of the launch of new consoles, AMD's gaming business performance has declined by 59%, and the embedded application market performance has also declined, but there has been no loss.
