Seagate announced the official shipment of a new generation of high-capacity hard drives, which are built with HAMR technology. Exos M Dedicated to NAS Iron Wolf Pro series, with the highest capacity pushed to 30TB in one fell swoop, thereby meeting the challenges of the rapidly growing data storage needs in the AI era.
This new product utilizes Seagate's Mozaic 3+ platform, incorporating heat-assisted magnetic recording (HAMR) technology, achieving a balance of performance, capacity, and stability. It also supports the high scalability and efficiency required by current AI application trends. To date, Mozaic platform hard drives have shipped over one million units, signifying that Seagate has firmly established itself at the commercial scale threshold for this next-generation storage technology.
Seagate stated that as AI technology continues to integrate into enterprise infrastructure, applications across on-premises, sovereign cloud, and hybrid cloud data centers increasingly rely on improved local data processing and storage performance. Driven by global data sovereignty regulations, nearly 150 countries/regions now require data to remain local, further fueling demand for high-density storage devices.
IDC points out that while HDDs lack the low latency of SSDs, their high capacity, low cost, and stable write performance remain essential strategic assets for large-scale AI model training and data warehousing. In particular, Seagate's 30TB Exos M is considered one of the highest-density hard drives currently on the market.
HPE estimates that the on-premises AI infrastructure market will grow at a 90% annual rate, reaching $420 billion within three years. NVIDIA has also pointed out that the concept of the AI factory is a "redefined data center," transforming data into real-time insights, which is crucial for smart manufacturing and enterprise operations.
For edge AI applications, Seagate also launched the IronWolf Pro 30TB hard drive, optimized for NAS environments. It supports low-latency, local analytics of large amounts of unstructured data. QNAP and UGREEN have also announced plans to integrate the IronWolf Pro to create petabyte-scale AI local storage solutions to address needs such as image analysis, fraud detection, and generative AI model inference.
In the Taiwanese market, the IronWolf Pro 30TB and 28TB models will be available starting July 7st through CoolPC, PChome, Momo, and Shopee, with suggested retail prices of NT$21 and NT$24590, respectively. The Exos M series is expected to be fully available after the third quarter.
As AI technology becomes increasingly prevalent, managing and storing massive amounts of data will become a core issue in enterprises' digital transformation. With this product update, Seagate further solidifies its technological leadership in the enterprise storage market.
