Hearing the players' voices: Durability upgrades and a 7th new look
Microsoft is expected to launch as early as 2024.This rocker cap accessibility programBy providing free 3D print files, players with hand muscle atrophy or other physical disabilities can print out a joystick control interface that best suits their physiological needs.
The recent announcement represents the first major upgrade to the plan in its two years of implementation.
• Enhance stability under intense operation:According to Microsoft, this update incorporates a great deal of feedback from the gaming community with disabilities. Many players reported that the joystick caps would occasionally detach during intense and demanding gameplay in the initial design. Therefore, the new design not only improves the overall structural durability but also strengthens the grip between the joystick and the Xbox controller's analog stick, ensuring it won't easily fly off during intense gameplay.
• New "goalpost" design:In addition to refining existing designs, Microsoft has added a seventh brand-new shape. This joystick cap, named "Goalpost," lives up to its name by resembling the U-shaped goalpost used by players in American football. This design allows fingers or specific parts of the hand to more stably "lock" into the groove for pushing and pulling operations.
Seven different character designs will be available for free download starting May 21st.
With the addition of the "goal post," the official Xbox lineup of 3D printed joystick caps has expanded to seven types, including:
• Plate
• Dome
• Narrow stick
• Pull-shaped pull rod
• Sphere
• Custom base: Allows players to add modeling clay (such as clay or thermoplastic) to create their own custom shapes.
• Goal post
Microsoft has confirmed that the redesigned joystick cap files will be available this Thursday (May 21, 2026) – “Global Accessibility Awareness Day”.
The dedicated page for 3D prints is now officially online. All 3D print files are available for free download, but players will still need a 3D printer (or a printing service) to bring them to life as physical accessories.
