Apart from OpenAI is interested in acquiring Google's Chrome browser business, Perplexity.ai is apparently also interested in this.
Attending a lawsuit filed by the U.S. Department of Justice accusing Google of violating market monopoly rules, Perplexity.ai's Chief Business Officer, Dmitry Shevelenko, stated that if the court forces Google to split its Chrome browser business, Perplexity.aiWill be interested in taking over, and emphasized that it can continue to maintain subsequent updates of the Chrome browser in the market without reducing service quality and free of charge.
However, Dmitry Shevelenko is not happy to see Google's Chrome browser business being split and sold. When testifying in court, he also said that he does not want OpenAI to take over the Chrome business. He is mainly worried that if OpenAI no longer promises to provide subsequent updates to the Chrome browser open source project Chromium, or no longer maintains its open source model, it may cause a lot of impact.
However, Dmitry Shevelenko also pointed out that Google has set many restrictions on artificial intelligence digital assistants on the Android platform. Even if the Perplexity service is manually set as a default function, it still cannot be woken up and used more conveniently like the Google Assistant digital assistant service. It can only be activated through manual operation and cannot be directly activated and used by voice control.
On the other hand, Dmitry Shevelenko also pointed out in his testimony that many mobile phone manufacturers are worried that their cooperation with Google will be affected. Therefore, it is difficult for these mobile phone manufacturers to make their artificial intelligence services a default function of their mobile phones. They can only be pre-installed on their mobile phone products in the form of apps, and they cannot even appear on the initial login settings screen of the mobile phone. As a result, many users will get used to using Google services directly.
