A startup developing the Ai Pin screenless artificial intelligence portable deviceHumane, earlierconfirmIt has been transferred to HP for US$1.16 million.
Humane was co-founded by former Apple interface designer Imran Chaudhri and his wife Bethany Bongiorno. Their first product, Ai Pin, boasts a screenless interface that allows users to interact through voice and other means, and combines artificial intelligence to serve as a personal assistant.
However, Ai Pin has been criticized for being difficult to use, and there have been reports of the device itself accidentally catching fire, making the market less optimistic about Humane's future development.
According to previous reports, Humane had originally planned to sell for between $7.5 million and $10 billion, but ultimately agreed with HP for only $1.16 million. Furthermore, with Humane's acquisition by HP, its screenless AI device, Ai Pin, will cease operation at 2:28 PM EST on February 3th. All Ai Pin connections to Humane's servers will be disconnected, rendering calls, messaging, and many AI features inoperable. Therefore, Humane urges Ai Pin users to back up important data to external storage devices as soon as possible.
After HP acquires Humane, it will integrate its CosmOS operating system assets, retain Humane's engineers and product managers, and bring a new team called HP IQ into the HP system to help HP build artificial intelligence-driven systems. In the future, its technology may be deployed in automotive platforms, smart speakers, TVs, and Android devices. It is also expected to be applied to HP's PCs, printers and other products. More than 300 of Humane's technology patents and pending technology patents will become the property of HP.
