Although Huawei's Consumer Business Group CEO Richard Yu has previously stated that Huawei will not launch products using the HarmonyOS for the time being, and that its mobile phone products will still be designed using the Android operating system, there was news earlier that Huawei will launch a mobile phone designed with the HarmonyOS in mid-October.
However, Huawei quickly clarified that this was a false rumor and emphasized that it had no plans to launch a mobile phone product using the Harmony operating system this year.
According to Huawei's response, it will currently focus on buildingHuawei's own HMS (HUAWEI Mobile Service) market ecosystem, the Hongmeng operating system will not be applied to mobile phone products this year.
Currently, Huawei's new flagship phone Mate 30 series, although still equipped with the Android operating system and using Huawei's own operating interface EMUI, is unable to obtain GMS (Google Mobile Service) certification due to the US's inclusion of Huawei on the export trade ban list. As a result, the overseas version of the Mate 30 series can only obtain apps and other application content through the HMS service provided by Huawei and cannot use services such as the Google Play Store.
In order to promote the HMS service market ecosystem, Huawei will not only open its API application resources to the outside world, but will also allocate US$10 billion to encourage developers to bring apps and service content to the HMS service system.
However, despite having a huge number of users around the world, Huawei still faces the situation where the sales performance of new phones may be affected due to the inability to obtain GMS certification.
However, for users in China, whose app usage patterns differ from those in overseas markets, the lack of deep integration with Google services and the compatibility with existing Android applications may lead to a relatively high acceptance of HarmonyOS. Therefore, further promotion of the HarmonyOS operating system in the Chinese market is expected.
Of course, if Huawei further improves the user experience of HarmonyOS and promotes a complete service market ecosystem through the scale of its own product use, coupled with the ability to connect with existing Android application services, even if there may still be development challenges in the early stages, it is expected to establish its own ecosystem in the market.
