Last year atMate 70 seriesAfter launching the HarmonyOS 5.0 operating system, which sheds its "Android skin" image, Huawei's new mobile phones, tablets, and wearable devices launched in 2025 will all be natively equipped with the new version of HarmonyOS, while also enabling more older models to follow suit and convert to the new version of HarmonyOS.
When launching the Mate 70 series last year, Richard Yu, Chairman of Huawei's Terminal Business Group and Smart Automotive Solutions Business Unit, stated that Huawei will significantly expand its native HarmonyOS layout to achieve its goal of building its own operating system.
Huawei emphasized that from the previously launched HarmonyOS to the later development of the fully natively designed HarmonyOS 5.0 version, it has now gained support from many partners in the market, emphasizing that it has achieved huge growth scale faster than other operating systems, while also establishing a new software ecosystem, becoming the world's third largest operating system.
The Mate 70 series is the first to be equipped with the new HarmonyOS 5.0, which claims to completely break away from the "Android skin" design and will significantly improve the performance of execution fluency, battery life, computer vision applications, and applications including artificial intelligence. In addition, Huawei also emphasized the enhanced security and cross-device linkage experience in the HarmonyOS 5.0 version.
To mitigate further impact from the Sino-US trade war, Huawei has removed the Android and Linux architectures from its HarmonyOS operating system, making it a fully in-house designed operating system and shielding it from US government technology export bans. Furthermore, last year, Huawei reportedly adjusted its revenue share for game content on the HarmonyOS App Store to 20% to attract more game developers and, in turn, make HarmonyOS a more attractive product for consumers.
