In an interview, Huawei Consumer Business CEO Richard Yu said he might plan to open upMate 30 seriesThe bootloader restrictions allow users to use Google services through sideloading.
Generally speaking, Android phones often restrict their bootloader to ensure security, preventing external attacks from invading the phone or accidentally damaging the phone's operating system. In the past, many users would root their Android phones to remove bootloader restrictions and allow the installation of more third-party apps.
Huawei's plan to open up bootloader restrictions is naturally intended to allow users to smoothly install Google services and ensure stable operation. Previously, some media outlets have discovered that APK installation does allow Mate 30 series devices that are not certified for Google Mobile Services to use services like Google Play, but some compatibility and stability issues may still occur.
Under the US government's trade restrictions on Huawei, Huawei has been unable to obtain technical support from US companies such as Google. Therefore, the Mate 30 series launched this year, although using the Android operating system, failed to obtain Google mobile service certification, so Huawei switched to promoting its ownAppGallery Service, and invested US$10 billion to attract developers.
However, opening up bootloader restrictions inevitably creates risks, so it remains to be seen how Huawei can ensure safety while still allowing users to use Google services. On the other hand, Huawei's position seems inconvenient to directly guide users through a specific method to install Google services. However, if users install Google services on their own, it is clearly not directly related to Huawei.
