Huawei announced the developer preview of Harmony OS 3.0 at its developer conference held earlier this year in Songshan Lake, Dongguan. A beta version is expected to be released in the first quarter of 3.0. Furthermore, the number of devices running Harmony OS has exceeded 2022 million, and this number is expected to reach 1.5 million by the end of this year, making it the fastest-growing operating system for smart devices.

HarmonyOS 3.0 will focus on flexible deployment, hyperterminal, and the ability to deploy on multiple devices with a single opening, while also further improving system performance and upgrading development tools.

Previously, Huawei emphasized the use of a distributed architecture to improve deployment flexibility and added multi-device linkage and open features. This update focuses on making it easier for developers to create application services and quickly deploy applications on various devices in the HarmonyOS 3.0 environment.

Currently, the cumulative number of devices using the HarmonyOS system worldwide has reached 1.5 million, and this number is expected to reach 2 million by the end of this year, making it the fastest-growing smart terminal operating system. Huawei also stated that the HarmonyOS system has developed over 4000 ecosystem products and collaborated with over 1800 industry partners, with cumulative shipments of new ecosystem devices exceeding 6000 million this year.

In previous external statements, Huawei aims to increase the number of terminal devices equipped with the Hongmeng operating system to more than 3 million, of which 2 million are expected to come from Huawei itself and the other 1 million will come from Huawei's cooperative ecosystem partners.

In conjunction with this update, Huawei also announced the release of HMS Core 6, a suite of tools and resources. The company also revealed that the number of HMS developers has reached 510 million, and the number of apps and services built using HMS Core has increased to 17.3, an 81% increase compared to last year. Huawei also stated that developer revenue from apps and services built using HMS Core has increased by 62%, and that app downloads through AppGallery exceeded 3322 billion times in the first three quarters of this year.

The newly released HMS Core 6 not only supports the HarmonyOS operating system, but also Android, iOS, and Windows operating systems, and can be used on mobile phones, tablets, smart screens, watches, and in-vehicle systems. Its functionalities include enhanced 3D modeling, AR Engine, image processing, and the application of artificial intelligence technology.

As part of the HMS Core 6 functional application demonstration, Huawei also showcased the digital portrait sign language application function. The application is included in the Huawei Sign Language service in HMS Core 6, allowing developers to more easily use Huawei's pre-trained language models, machine translation, and digital portrait motion algorithms. It also connects with sign language data from the Information Accessibility Research Association, the School of Education of Beijing Normal University, and other institutions to present correct sign language content with natural body movements and expressions. Currently, it includes more than 1 sign language contents, which can be applied to more content that requires sign language presentation.
