HTC has announced the launch of a self-positioning tracker for all-in-one XR headsets. Compared to the previously released VIVE Tracker 3.0 tracker, it offers richer functionality and is equipped with a new generation of autonomous tracking technology, which can achieve "autonomous tracking" without relying on external base stations or equipment. It supports the existing VIVE XR Elite and VIVE Focus 3, and will also support Open XR and PC VR devices based on SteamVR in the future.
The VIVE self-positioning tracker itself weighs only 94 grams, supports 2.4GHz and 5GHz wireless network connections, and can correspond to 7 hours of connection time through the built-in battery. It uses two wide-angle cameras to accurately track the user's position in 3D space. In the future, it can even operate completely independently, without the need for any headset, and can be used to track the movements of people or objects, thereby creating new application possibilities.
Each XR headset can use up to five VIVE self-positioning trackers simultaneously to achieve multi-point full-body tracking, support PC VR streaming, and is compatible with existing VIVE Tracker-supported PC content.
In addition, VIVE XR Elite will launch a native VRChat virtual social platform, allowing users to participate in various themed activities through this platform, and also participate in activities, chat, games and create content with other users.
VRChat will fully support the full-body tracking capabilities of the VIVE Self-Positioning Tracker, and a version of VRChat for the VIVE XR Elite will be available on VIVEPORT in December.
The VIVE Tracker uses a standard 1/4″-20 UNC screw mount and a spring-loaded connector, allowing for quick and easy installation and removal, and can be easily attached to a variety of objects. HTC has also released the 3D CAD files for the VIVE Tracker, allowing users to design and manufacture custom brackets or mounts to meet their specific needs, addressing a variety of application scenarios.
VIVE Trackers are available for pre-order starting today, with a suggested retail price of NT$6250 per unit. Various limited-time discount packages are expected to be available on the VIVE official website before December 12st, including three VIVE Trackers and a single VIVE Wireless Receiver, as well as a 31+3 bundle of VIVE XR Elite and VIVE Tracker. Existing VIVE XR Elite owners will also be able to purchase the bundle.
