OnPrevious previewHTC today (August 8th) announced its first AI smart glasses, VIVE Eagle, and boasted that it was made in Taiwan and launched first in the Taiwanese market. Its minimalist and stylish design integrates functions such as an AI assistant, music playback, smart photography, and real-time translation. It emphasizes support for Traditional Chinese voice control and has partnered with Taiwan Mobile and 14EYEhaus, a boutique eyewear company, to provide a one-stop service from trial wear, fitting, to purchase, targeting the smart wearable and technology fashion markets.

HTC Senior Vice President Huang Zhaoying said that VIVE Eagle is more than just glasses. It is also a "gateway" that allows technology to be more naturally integrated into life after the mobile phone. By combining AI, XR and cloud services, it opens a new chapter in human-computer interaction.

Full-scenario AI experience from daily life to travel
The design of VIVE Eagle is basically the same asMeta, Xiaomi and other companies launched eyewear devicesSimilarly, it does not use Google's Android XR operating system platform as previously speculated, but instead uses HTC's self-developed software system. It does not have interactive functions such as virtual visual image projection such as augmented reality. It is mainly used through voice control or manual operation, and supports AI assistant interaction.

HTC stated that VIVE Eagle adopts an open architecture design, and the software part will be open to the outside world and integrated with third-party apps. In addition to the current cooperation with Google Gemini and the GPT AI model provided in beta form in cooperation with OpenAI, more language models will be added as needed. In addition, it will also be connected with more software services to make it more convenient for users to use VIVE Eagle.

At the same time, the hardware will also adopt an open design. In addition to the four translucent color frame styles launched independently this time, HTC will also consider collaborating with more eyewear brands to design more styles in the future. In addition to using Zeiss technology licensed specifications and supporting top-level UV protection for sun lenses, it may also cooperate with more lens manufacturers in the future. Even based on the cooperation with 2020EYEhaus for exhibition and optometry, it is even possible to cooperate with more channels for exhibition and sales models to make it easier for smart glasses products to enter the market.

Using Qualcomm hardware architecture
In terms of hardware specifications, VIVE Eagle is equipped withQualcomm Snapdragon AR1 processorThe whole device weighs only 49 grams. It is claimed that the frame is designed for the Asian face shape in Taiwan, and is equipped with an adjustable nose pad to ensure stability when worn, while also ensuring comfort when worn. The translucent body is available in four colors: red, coffee, gray, and black.

For sound, it uses open headphones and virtual bass technology, taking into account both stereo sound quality and environmental perception effects. It is also equipped with a directional microphone with intelligent noise reduction function, claiming to maintain clear calls and recordings even outdoors or in noisy environments.
As for the built-in battery capacity of 235mAh, the standby time for general daily use can be up to 36 hours, and the usage time for continuous music playback is 4.5 hours. The battery also uses a magnetic fast charging design with metal contacts, which can be charged to 10% in 50 minutes, and supports charging while using.
As for the camera function, the left side is equipped with a 1200-megapixel ultra-wide-angle lens, and the right side is equipped with an LED light that can identify the shooting status. It supports wearer recognition function, so if the glasses are not worn, the shooting and video functions will not be activated. Even if the user covers the LED light while wearing the glasses, the shooting and video functions will be automatically restricted.

In terms of operation, users can operate the glasses functions through voice interaction, activate the camera function through the button on the right, and open the VIVE AI digital assistant service through the left.
VIVE AI digital assistant service boasts its own development
As for the VIVE AI digital assistant, HTC touts it as an in-house developed AI service that can be activated at any time via "Hi, VIVE" or "Hey, VIVE." It primarily performs basic operations on the glasses, such as voice control and interaction. Further AI calculations are performed in conjunction with mobile AI services, such as Siri on iOS or Gemini Live (or Google Assistant) on Android.

As for execution requirements that require larger computing resources, they will be uploaded to the cloud for collaborative computing through de-identification. It is emphasized that all data will be protected by AES-256 encryption, and the uploaded data will not be used for behavior tracking or subsequent AI training.
Currently, VIVE AI has been connected to Google Gemini and OpenAI's GPT series models, and will subsequently connect to more suitable language models. The main language interface currently supports Traditional Chinese and English, while the translation and photo translation functions support 13 languages including Chinese, English, Japanese, Korean, French, German, and Spanish. In the future, an instant interactive translation function will also be added to help users communicate more easily with foreign speakers.
HTC also mentioned the VIVE AI Plus service for paid subscriptions, which is expected to add more application functions, but no further details have been disclosed at this time.
