To meet the needs of portable data backup, Seagate recently announced the launch of its new Backup Plus series of external hard drives, including the textured Backup Plus Ultra Touch, the lightweight and portable Backup Plus Slim, and the high-capacity Backup Plus Portable.

The differences between the Backup Plus Ultra Touch and Backup Plus Slim include the textured surface design of the former and the metal texture design of the latter. The former also comes with a set of USB-C connector adapter accessories, so it can be used on most models with USB-C ports, including the new iPad Pro with a USB-C port. The hard drive itself uses a USB 3.0 Micro-B type port, but is backward compatible with USB 2.0 ports, making it suitable for backing up data on general PC devices and game consoles such as the PlayStation 4.
However, the Backup Plus Slim's connector can actually be used with USB-C devices via an additional adapter, and it's slightly thinner than the Backup Plus Ultra Touch. As for the Backup Plus Portable, both in thickness and storage capacity, it differs from the Backup Plus Ultra Touch or Backup Plus Slim.

The white Backup Plus Ultra Touch I obtained this time comes with a USB-C connector adapter accessory in the original packaging. In addition, it is factory-set and does not require reformatting, so it is compatible with Windows 10 or macOS environments for storage and use. Therefore, it can be used very conveniently for portable data storage.
The average user generates a certain amount of digital photos and other files every day. Even with the increasing storage capacity of smartphones and the relatively low prices of high-capacity external memory cards, off-site backup of these files remains crucial. While cloud storage services are convenient, syncing over the internet can still be slow and experience disconnections. Therefore, many people opt for external hard drives as a transfer medium, using high-capacity mobile hard drives to migrate data from various devices to larger storage spaces, such as their home desktop or NAS devices.

External hard drives are also crucial for image creators and photographers. For example, when image creators need to process different image details through different devices, they may transfer files from external hard drives to different devices for post-production processing. Photographers also use external hard drives to instantly back up important image content while shooting outdoors to avoid losses caused by accidental damage to the camera's memory card. They can also use external hard drives to quickly transfer large amounts of footage to delivery recipients or subsequent processing teams.
In addition to providing convenient data storage and transfer capabilities, the Backup Plus series of external hard drives also include Seagate Secure software with 256-AES hardware encryption to ensure data security. Furthermore, Seagate's backup software allows for automatic hourly, daily, weekly, or monthly backups. Mac users can also back up data to the external hard drive using macOS's built-in Time Machine.
In addition, the Backup Plus series of external hard drives not only meet personal portable data storage needs, but also can synchronize folders between multiple devices, making it easier for users to access backup data, and can automatically archive old and deleted files.
The new Backup Plus series of external hard drives comes with a three-year limited warranty, while the Backup Plus Ultra Touch offers an additional two years of Rescue data recovery service. All models in the series also include a two-month free Adobe Creative Cloud Photography subscription for photographers.
