Razer recently updatedBlackShark gaming headset, launched the V2 version, which uses TriForce 50mm driver units, HyperClear cardioid directional microphones, and passive noise reduction functions, and also incorporates THX Spatial Audio game setting functions to make the sound positioning in the game clearer.
For general use, Razer also offers the entry-level BlackShark V2 X. Compared to the V2 model, it lacks the THX Spatial Audio gaming setting function, but still supports 7.1-channel output.
In terms of appearance, the new BlackShark V2 maintains a design similar to that of a helicopter pilot headset, but the overall shape is significantly different from the earlier version. The left and right ear cups still maintain a hanging design, and the detachable microphone originally supported by a metal bracket has been changed to a concave coil support design and can be quickly replaced. The microphone adopts a HyperClear cardioid polar design, which corresponds to a more delicate sound reception effect.
The earmuffs on both sides adopt a tight-fitting design, maintaining wearing comfort while ensuring ventilation through soft and breathable memory foam material. The headphones made of aluminum frame weigh only 262 grams and can be combined with a headband to reduce the weight when worn. As for the headphone function, the volume can be controlled through the knob on the left earmuff, or the microphone reception function can be switched by pressing the switch.
Compared to the glossy plastic earcup housings of earlier models, Razer's BlackShark V2 features a matte finish, adorned with the Razer triple-headed snake logo. The headband and earcups have also been changed to a breathable mesh material, preventing the deterioration and cracking of the imitation leather design of earlier models due to long-term disuse. This also allows for greater ventilation and comfort.
The headset itself uses a 3.5mm cable connection, but can be connected to an additional sound card via the included USB, allowing users to customize the microphone pickup effect and minimize microphone noise interference. The headset itself can also use the THX Spatial Audio game setting profile to correspond to a more realistic sound field presentation effect.
Currently, the THX Spatial Audio game profile application function of BlackShark V2 already supports 18 games including "Apex Legends", "Counter-Strike: Global Offensive", "Valorant", and "Call of Duty: Modern Warfare", and more games will be supported in the future.
However, although BlackShark V2 can be used on Windows PC, Mac, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and mobile devices such as multiple mobile phones, it is limited by software driver and hardware compatibility restrictions. The sound function currently requires connecting to a sound card via USB and is only available in Windows 10 PC environments.
However, the listening experience of wearing the headphones themselves is actually quite comfortable and suitable for gaming. You can even use them as regular full-face headphones by removing the microphone.
Overall, the BlackShark V2 is suitable for most gaming sessions, with both earcups providing good coverage. While it's a shame the THX Spatial Audio game profile is limited to Windows 10 PCs, it's also quite suitable for gaming on consoles and mobile phones. However, if used as a regular headphone for music listening, the sound quality may not be suitable for those who value delicate audio output.
